Eric R.
Tubbs

“I try to be a businessman in addition to a lawyer, thinking and solving problems in ways similar to how my clients would.”

Eric specializes in a broad range of corporate transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, commercial contracts, securities issuances and compliance, as well as other corporate governance matters. “Mergers and acquisitions are oftentimes the largest, most important transactions a business will ever face,” he says. “It’s exciting and energizing to be part of transactions that are so material to the future of an organization.”

Even before attending law school Eric knew he would focus on corporate transactions, specifically mergers and acquisitions—the ideal mix of his passions for business and law. “Blending my business background with the complex legal issues you face as a lawyer was ideal for me,” he says.

Wanting experience and exposure to complex transactions right out of law school, Eric practiced with Mayer Brown LLP, an international law firm headquartered in Chicago. There he represented public and private U.S. and multinational companies in transactional matters, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate governance, contract analysis, and securities law matters.

Many of the transactions Eric has been involved in have provided him with experience in numerous areas of law that apply across industries and to businesses both large and small, such as corporate governance, employment law, environmental issues, and data security-related matters. Eric not only is experienced with the legal issues facing business in corporate transactions, but is also well regarded for being able to communicate these issues to clients in a way that is easily understood.

Eric loves his work, welcomes new and interesting issues, and is inspired by his clients and colleagues. “The people with whom I work are bright, professional, and bring the same enthusiasm and passion to their work, day in and day out, that I try to,” he says.

A native of Des Moines, Eric takes pride in being part of the city’s business community and is excited about its growth. “Des Moines is growing by leaps and bounds, and it’s an exciting time to participate in this market,” Eric says. “Des Moines and Nyemaster offer great opportunities for quality attorneys to become better at what they do, to better serve clients, and to grow their practices. That’s my perspective as I grow my practice at Nyemaster.”
