Hallie E.
Still-Caris

“I like working toward the same goal. It’s not an adversarial relationship.”

In Hallie Still-Caris’ business, finance, and real estate practice, success is all about reaching the best outcome for both parties. Working toward a common objective is one of her favorite parts of the job. “You’re all paddling in the same direction,” Hallie says. “Sure, there is conflict; you’re going back and forth, but you’re all working toward the same goal.” Hallie finds satisfaction in helping her clients reach their goals. “I like to solve problems. I like to figure things out,” she says.

Hallie uses her problem-solving skills in the area of commercial real estate finance, which is her specialty. She is part of a team of attorneys who have developed a niche practice area representing life insurance companies that make commercial real estate loans, although she also represents borrowers who are seeking financing. In addition, Hallie focuses on two other areas: general corporate law—in which she handles purchase and sale transactions, contract reviews, and entity formations, among other general corporate matters—and environmental law—in which she reviews environmental site assessments and advises clients on compliance with state and federal environmental laws. Additionally, she practices in the area of antitrust law by preparing Hart-Scott-Rodino filings.

Hallie enjoys being involved in the community and is an active member of the board of directors of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and is the co-chair of Downtown DSM. In her free time, she works on restoring the barn on her family’s century farm outside Scranton, Iowa.
