Hayward Draper has practiced exclusively in litigation since graduating with honors from Harvard Law School.
Presently, Hayward is serving in an Of Counsel capacity for the firm. He is active in both Iowa and Michigan. Hayward’s trial and appellate practice in both states has focused on the areas of health care, professional malpractice, insurance, fraud, and antitrust litigation.
In addition, Hayward has experience in the areas of administrative hearings, arbitrations, business and commercial litigation, construction litigation, environmental litigation, insurance coverage, product liability, asbestos litigation, and all types of personal injury and tort defense work.
Before joining Nyemaster Goode, Hayward served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan and as assistant chief of the Civil Division there. Earlier in his career, Hayward was an associate at Warner & Stackpole in Boston, served as a law clerk for the Hon. Christopher Armstrong of the Massachusetts Appeals Court, worked as a legislative aide in the U.S. House of Representatives, served as a captain in the Signal Corps, U.S. Army Reserves, and taught history as a Carnegie Fellow in Yale Graduate School.
Hayward also is presently involved in historical research and writing, and serves as Trustee and Treasurer of the Leelanau (Michigan) Historical Society. His most recent publication is a book entitled "The Colony: The history, families, society, architecture, and economics of a 1908 traditional American Cottage Row."
