Matthew A.
McGuire
“Every client has a story. My role is to tell that story in a manner that resonates.”
Matt McGuire maintains a broad practice encompassing a variety of business and commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, and antitrust matters.
In his business litigation practice, Matt handles a variety of complex disputes, including breach of contract litigation, business torts, and other business and commercial litigation. Matt recognizes that each case is unique and each client has particular business needs that govern the appropriate strategy for resolving disputes. A former judicial clerk for the Hon. James E. Gritzner on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, Matt brings extensive experience navigating the challenges of litigation in federal court.
In his intellectual property litigation practice, Matt works with large and small companies to defend their trademarks and patents, protect their brands, and maximize the value of their innovations. A graduate of Drake’s journalism school, Matt is comfortable working closely with subject-matter experts to ensure that expertise is conveyed to the relevant audience.
Matt also maintains an antitrust practice involving litigation, government investigations, counseling, and merger reviews under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act. Matt serves as the Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association’s Trade Regulation Section and speaks frequently on antitrust-related topics. Prior to joining Nyemaster, Matt practiced in the field of antitrust law at a leading global law firm in Washington, D.C.
Finally, Matt has a passion for appellate advocacy and represents clients before appellate courts in the state and federal systems. Matt is a contributing editor to On Brief, Nyemaster’s blog devoted to appellate litigation with a focus on the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
