Capitol Report - Week 18 2022

Neither the House nor Senate met this week. Lawmakers are continuing to work behind the scenes to reach a final agreement on the FY23 budget and Educational Savings Accounts. Fiscal Year 2023 begins July 1, currently the Senate and the House are approximately $70 million apart in the $8.3 billion budget.

On Thursday, Governor Reynolds signed three bills into law, including:

• HF 2200 – A bill for an act relating to direct healthcare agreements, and including effective date and applicability agreements.
• SF 2363 – A bill for an act relating to the requirements for a sex offender to be granted a modification of sex offender registry requirements.
• SF 586 – A bill for an act relating to banks, making appropriations, and making civil penalties applicable.

The June 7th Primary is less than three weeks away. With the new redistricting maps approved in November, there are more multiple new candidates and new districts. Early voting begins on May 18th. More information and a full list of candidates can be found on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website.

Next week: Senate and House leadership will continue to work towards a final agreement on the FY23 budget and remaining policy priorities, including the Governor’s education bill.
