Nelson Pens Article on Cannabis in Commercial Mortgage Lending

Nyemaster attorney and ACMA Fellow Mary Katherine Nelson published “Cannabis in Commercial Mortgage Lending: High Risk, High Reward” in the Fall 2025 edition of The Abstract, a publication of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

The article explores the inherent challenges real estate lenders face when considering commercial mortgages involving cannabis tenants. Nelson discusses some of the hurdles in cannabis lending transactions and suggests useful contractual provisions that can protect lenders looking to lend to borrowers involved in the cannabis industry.
