Catherine
Anderson Skotzke

“Lawyers have to be creative or they won’t be able to come to a solution that’s going to help anybody.”

Catherine Anderson Skotzke considers herself a lifelong learner, so law is her ideal career. “I like to tell clients one of my favorite parts of the job is learning about other industries,” she says. “Attorneys truly get to learn something new every day.”

As a little girl, Catherine saw how her father practiced law and, from a young age, saw it as the right path for her too. Once Catherine took the first step in her dad’s footsteps at Drake Law School, she knew she had made the right choice.

Catherine’s litigation practice lends itself to a search for knowledge. Learning something new every day helps Catherine help her clients. Whether it is staying up-to-date on changes in the law or learning the facts of a unique case, Catherine strives to grow and apply her knowledge to her clients’ needs.

Particularly in her employment law practice, Catherine enjoys working closely with clients to determine the best path forward. “Employment litigation is about fairness and about relationships,” she says. “I think that’s interesting—the relationships you get to see between people while resolving their issues in a fair manner.”

Positive and friendly by nature, Catherine strives to bring positivity to all client interactions, even the difficult ones. “Sometimes the work we do is pretty serious, and it’s not always the most pleasant things that you have to talk about with a client,” she says. “I do whatever I can do to make sure my interactions are as positive as possible.”

As a Boone, Iowa, native and a Drake University alumna, Catherine was thrilled to put down roots in Des Moines with her husband, Ryan, near her family. Catherine and Ryan love taking part in everything Des Moines has to offer and sharing it with their son and basset hound.

Iowa family connections and the vibrancy of the Des Moines area make practicing law in Iowa an ideal fit for Catherine.
