Biggerstaff Egger
“We are helping our clients get through a time that is pretty tough. As attorneys, we get to help them navigate and resolve problems.”
As a child, Tori Egger watched her father navigate law school. “He graduated law school when he was 38, and he and my mom had all four of us kids by then,” Tori says. “We were old enough to watch him go through law school and become an attorney. I thought it was the coolest thing.”
Inspired by his example, Tori always knew a law career was in her future. Now, her practice includes employment litigation and a spectrum of civil litigation. “I like interacting not only with the clients, but also with opposing counsel,” she says. “I like all of the interactive elements that go into litigation, like settlement conferences, mediation, and all the way up to the trial aspect.”
Employment law fits well with her business and psychology background. “The employer-employee relationship is one everyone can understand,” Tori says. “We deal with very real-world social issues, like various forms of discrimination. It’s important.”
A sports recruiter brought Tori to the Midwest from Colorado. A varsity volleyball player as an undergraduate, Tori uses the skills she learned as a team player in her law practice. “Volleyball ties in to working with different people,” she says. “It’s being able to communicate with different people with different backgrounds and different views. You have to all come together, work together, to achieve one goal, which translates well into the practice of law because there are so many moving pieces and different communication styles in every case.”
To achieve her clients’ goals, Tori strives to be collaborative and knowledgeable. Her previous legal experiences act as stepping-stones. “The Court of Appeals externship during law school was an amazing experience,” Tori says. “It was a chance to see the other side of everything, to see how the court thinks, what they look for in writing, and what they look for in their advocacy.”
Tori considers every new matter as an opportunity to grow. “During my externships and my first job, I learned everybody is constantly learning, and everyone is there to help you learn and create the best work product that you can,” she says.
