Catherine
Anderson Skotzke

“Lawyers have to be creative or they won’t be able to come to a solution that’s going to help anybody.”

Because Catherine Anderson Skotzke considers herself a lifelong learner, she sees law as an ideal career. “This is a profession where you get to learn something new, tons of things, every day,” she says.

Growing up, she saw how her father practiced law, and by high school, she knew it was her career path too. “I got to see that constant learning as a child in my dad’s career,” she says. “Attorneys are people who are always learning and always expanding their wealth of knowledge to be able to provide for their clients.”

Catherine’s litigation practice lends itself to that same search for knowledge. She has a particular interest in employment law. “It affects so many people from both sides,” she says. “It’s about fairness and about relationships. I think that’s interesting—the relationships you get to see between people while resolving their issues in a fair manner.”

Positive and friendly by nature, Catherine hopes to extend positivity into even difficult interactions for clients. “Sometimes the work we do is pretty serious, and it’s not always the most pleasant things that you have to talk about with a client,” she says. “I hope that it would still be a positive experience to work with me.”

That extends to her work with other attorneys as well. “You get to work with absolutely brilliant people,” Catherine says. “You get to be part of a community of professionals that will support you and teach you and learn with you.”

Close family ties remain an important part of Catherine’s life. A Boone, Iowa, native, she takes every opportunity to enjoy extended family celebrations. Catherine lives in Des Moines with her husband, Ryan, and their basset hound, Peggy.

Family connections and the vibrancy of the Des Moines area make practicing law in Iowa an ideal fit.
