Joel
Williams

“I care and am invested in my clients. I want to build long-term relationships.”

“I enjoy watching my clients develop over time,” Joel Williams says. “I want to always be there for them, supporting them as much as possible and preventing problems before they arise.” A transactional attorney, Joel focuses on helping clients achieve their goals. “I want to give my clients advice to improve their businesses and help them get better—and bigger in some cases.”

Joel represents clients that range from large entities to single-member businesses and individuals, including farmers. His work encompasses corporate law, real estate transactions, estate planning, succession planning, probate administration, tax advising, and all elements of business organization from formation through dissolution. “My interest has always been in business and transactions, the finance side of things,” Joel says. “I strive for efficiency. Getting the deal done is my goal.”

Joel draws on his education and experience in finance to close deals and achieve his clients’ business needs. He knows his clients are looking for professional advice on the best course of action for their unique circumstances. “My strategy is always to look for the best course of action, but every situation is different. Having a discussion on needs and goals takes priority,” he says. “I present clients with options that they may not be aware of in order to achieve the results they desire.”

Flexibility is key. “I am able to adjust easily to whatever the client’s needs are,” Joel says. “Having a business background and advising many other businesses, I can see a lot of issues before other people can.” As he works with clients, Joel looks for multiple ways to structure deals—no matter the obstacles. “I like that challenge of trying to figure out and resolve problems,” he says. By developing several ways to execute a deal, he helps clients find the option that’s right for their specific situation.

Growing up in Carroll, Iowa, Joel always planned to be an attorney. He saw the versatility of a law degree in the business world and knew it was his career path. After law school, Joel was ready to expand his horizons, so he practiced at a law firm in North Carolina. But Iowa is home, and he returned to Iowa to practice law and raise his family. “I love Midwesterners, the down-to-earth nature of them,” he says.

Joel also has a commitment to community involvement. “I am a big fan of economic development,” he says. “The nonprofit idea of giving back to community for everyone to collectively benefit is something that’s very important to me.”

Joel’s primary objective is to help clients find success. For him, a client-centered approach is key to career satisfaction. “I really enjoy being there for my clients,” Joel says. “I enjoy completing the transactions and helping my clients achieve their goals.”
