Nyemaster Goode today announced a significant addition to its Government Affairs practice with Robert L. Palmer joining as an of counsel attorney. Palmer will play a key role in representing clients’ interests at the state and local level and helping clients strategize and position themselves on relevant public policy issues.
Palmer joins Nyemaster from the Iowa League of Cities where he was most recently general counsel and director of government affairs. In that role, he spearheaded major legislative initiatives and advocated for municipal interests at the state level.
“Nyemaster has a deep history of successfully representing its clients’ interests with legislators, elected officials and agency representatives at all levels of government,” Palmer said. “I’m excited to join such an incredible team.”
Palmer serves on the West Des Moines Chamber Board of Directors, is president of the West Des Moines Community Foundation, and is vice president of the Iowa Society of Association Executives. He has also served as an advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and is the chair of the Drake University College of Arts & Sciences National Advisory Council.
He is a graduate of Drake Law School and Drake University. He also is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). His expertise spans governmental affairs, small business operations, community foundations, and strategic planning.
Nyemaster’s government affairs practice monitored nearly 2,500 bills and study bills that were introduced and 630 amendments filed during the most recent Iowa legislative session.
“We are thrilled to welcome Robert to Nyemaster and to bring his skills in legislative policy development and management to our clients,” said Robert Andeweg, shareholder and chair of Nyemaster’s government affairs practice. “Robert maintains deep, close connections with federal, state, and local elected officials and has spearheaded major legislative initiatives. He has a unique understanding of the broad public policy issues our clients are facing.”
