Litigation Paralegal

Nyemaster Goode is seeking a skilled paralegal to join its litigation paralegal team in our Des Moines, Iowa office. Candidates will be expected to have a high degree of knowledge in all areas of litigation. This includes experience with electronic discovery and various litigation software programs. This position requires the candidate to be efficient and have experience in handling and managing litigation files and large quantities of documents. The individual will assist and support attorneys by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Possess critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and communication skills.
  • Able to meet internal and client-driven deadlines, and deadlines established by court order and court rules.
  • Possess excellent writing skills for  drafting documents including pleadings, discovery documents, case analysis memoranda, outlines, narrative summaries, chronologies, correspondence, reports.
  • Proficient in proofreading and editing documents. Must ensure accuracy, comprehension, and proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Obtain documents from client and review for case relevancy.
  • Analyze case records (including transcripts) to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence. Prepare case analysis including the identification of the issues, omissions and discrepancies.
  • Assist attorneys with evidence preparation and organization.
  • Identify and provide information regarding experts and coordinate expert deposition preparation.
  • Locate and interview witnesses.
  • Coordinate and arrange for depositions of parties and witnesses.
  • Analyze case documents and determine use as exhibits for deposition and trial.
  • Determine effective document production management, including use of e-discovery review platform.
  • Identify and request additional records relevant to the case.
  • Comprehend and comply with all court rules.
  • Conduct research and investigation of pertinent information from external resources including Internet, local or university libraries, law libraries, WestLaw,  and possess thorough knowledge of research process and  investigation, along with rules and regulations of such processes.
  • Manage case documents, including correspondence and legal documents in office filing system and document management system as required.
  • Process billing, time entry, and expense reimbursements via internal accounting systems.
  • Assist with trial preparation including, but not limited to, set-up and attendance at trial.
  • Personal interaction with attorneys and clients for client service.
  • On-site daily attendance for secured computer access and client confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Associates Degree with a Paralegal Certification required.
  • General litigation paralegal experience, minimum two years required.
  • Experience with litigation and document management software desired.

 

 MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate in a professional, tactful, and confident manner with external clients and internal customers.
  • Experienced in the use of Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe.
  • Independent worker, ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Competently operates office equipment including computer, fax, calculator, scanner, copier, and telephone system.
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions.
  • Proficient in knowledge of Relativity or an equivalent e-discovery review platform.
